What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

If water is leaking from the top of your water heater, cut power or gas, close the cold-water shutoff, and schedule service. Top leaks often come from loose fittings, the T&P valve, or the cold/hot connections. Our licensed plumbers can diagnose, repair, or replace the unit, and we offer 24/7 emergency help in La Porte and nearby cities.

Quick steps:

  • Turn off power: switch off breaker (electric) or set gas to “Pilot/Off.”
  • Close the cold-water valve on top of the tank.
  • Wipe dry, place a pan or towel, and do not open the unit. Modern heaters involve electricity, gas, and pressurized water.
